Reality TV revives another has-been

Feel-good reality TV is coming to NBC, and bringing with it a Grammy-winning artist we haven’t seen in a long time. Amy Grant, like so many other has-beens, appears to be using this reality blunder as an attempt to revive her career.

While the former Christian music icon is the perfect host for “Three Wishes,” in which she will visit small towns throughout the country to make dreams come true, it’s about time has-beens stop using reality TV as a desperate attempt to make a career comeback.

Along the same lines as ABC’s “Extreme Home Makeover” and Fox’s “Renovate My Family,” “Three Wishes” is about transforming people’s dreams into reality.

Each episode follows the personal story of a family as Grant and her team make dreams come true. Some of those wishes, such as living out a sports fantasy, seem more realistic than others. I doubt that Grant and NBC could keep a factory open to save the local economy or preserve a teacher’s job, as reality news sources are reporting.

No premiere date has been set for the show, but applications still are being accepted for those who have a dream they would like considered.

And we must remember that the promise from the reality TV world that your dreams will come true doesn’t always work out.

The Rosier family filed a lawsuit against Fox when the seven-day “Renovate My Family” project to make their home handicapped accessible for their son turned out to be anything but quality craftsmanship. The family is asking for $350,000 compensation for repairs that have to be made.

One more reality tidbit – “The Princes of Malibu” have turned out not to be royal enough for Fox. After airing only two episodes, the broadcasting company has canned the show.
