Shawn is an engaging teen with auburn hair, freckles and a great smile.
He has a great sense of humor, is good company and likes swimming, basketball and fishing. Shawn also likes to trade Yu Gi Oh cards and likes animals.
Shawn, 14, came into the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in February 2001. He has been in a number of placements, but has been in his current foster home for more than three years.
His foster parents value him and enjoy having him in their family.
An industrious young man, Shawn values hard work and enjoys helping his foster father complete household projects. He spends the summer collecting bottles and cans to earn extra money and takes great pride in this activity. Shawn has participated in fundraising activities that raised about $200 for a local charity.
Active in his school’s extracurricular activities, Shawn has been manager of the girls soccer team and has been asked to manage the girls basketball team.
His recent membership in the Boy Scouts troop in his community is a reflection of his efforts to improve his relationships and interactions with others.
Shawn recently graduated from middle school, and his teachers developed a skit to celebrate the progress Shawn had made during his time at the school.
They also presented him with a trophy in recognition of his work as soccer manager and for his commitment to doing his best academically. Shawn is below grade level because of his difficulty with reading and processing information.
Shawn is very connected to his current foster family. It will be important for him to maintain contact with them and his siblings after his adoption. Shawn now is placed with his younger brother, but it is not in the best interest of the boys to be placed together in an adoptive home. Another family has adopted Shawn’s birth sister, and they maintain contact.
Shawn wants to be adopted and will need a family that can support him in working through grief and loss issues. He would like a mother and father but could do well with a single father who is very involved. He would do well with older siblings or as an only child.
Shawn is one of 222 Maine children in Maine DHHS care who are seeking an adoptive family. For more information about Shawn or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME at (877) 505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.
