Brown rolls to victory at ’95’

HERMON – Fred Brown of Winterport made up for lost time and won Saturday night’s Linnehan Credit Now Auto 50-lap Coca-Cola limited sportsman feature race at Speedway 95 after being absent for a few weeks.

Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs was working his way to the front, but lost control coming into the front stretch and spun out. He was able to get back under way and avoid a caution, but had to head to the pits.

Brown took the lead from Dave St. Clair of Liberty, who finished second. The rest of the top five: Brenton Parritt of Steuben in third, St. Albans’ Greg Morse in fourth, and Bangor’s Josh Higgins fifth.

Winterport Dragway

At Winterport, Craig Cousins of Hermon took top honors in the Super Pro Eliminator Day feature Sunday. He finished ahead of Calais’ Don Barnes, who was runner-up, and lone semifinalist Russ Poland of Wilton.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway

At Scarborough, Trevor Sanborn, a 17-year-old driver from East Parsonsfield, taught the old dogs a new trick Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway.

Sanborn twice had to regain the lead spot after cautions, eventually taking a half-lap lead over J.R. Baril of Haverhill, Mass., and holding him off to win the NASCAR Pro Series feature race. Baril was second, South Waterboro’s Curtis Gerry was third, Windham’s Bobby Babb fourth, and Seabrook, N.H.’s Jay Sands fifth.

Unity Raceway

At Unity, Ricky Burgess of Waterville was battling problems with his clutch early on, but managed to get things in gear in time to reel off the ninth win in his last 10 races in the Sunoco Racing Fuels Super Street feature race Saturday.

Burgess got an assist from a tow truck with a push start before taking the green flag, led every lap of the triple crown series race, and held off a strong surge by Mickey Landry Sr. of Anson. Belgrade’s Hal Stratton was third, Mickey Landry Jr. of Anson was fourth, and Augusta’s Corey Poulin was fifth.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset Friday night, hometown boy Mike Orr rebounded from a disappointing finish last week to claim victory in the late model sportsman 30-lap feature on double points day.

He picked a great day to win as his series lead had shrunken to four points, but now stands at 12. He also matches Puncin St. Clair of Liberty for most victories this season with three.

Liberty’s Bryan Robbins was second, St. Clair third, Bill Pinkham of Wiscasset fourth, and Winterport’s Fred Brown fifth.
