Adam Staier of Farmington won the state 5,000-meter racewalk championship race with a time of 28 minutes at the USA Track and Field Association Championships in Lewiston Friday.
Staier, a University of Maine-Farmington senior, was one of four successful Mainers at the meet. The other three were 13-year-old Matthew Forgues of Boothbay, Dave Baldwin of Harrison, and Sara Adams, a sophomore at Lisbon High School.
Forgues finished second to Staier in 28:58, and Baldwin was third at 29:07. Adams won her first state meet title with a time of 37:47 in the 5,000.
Forgues also posted a second-place finish in the youth boys 3,000-meter racewalk at the USATF Junior Olympics Championships in Indianapolis on Tuesday. Forgues’ time of 15:32.77 was four seconds behind the winner.
In the intermediate boys 5K racewalk, Taylor Burns (28:53.17) of Scarborough was fifth and Aaron Carroll (30:24.85) of Gardiner was sixth. Padric Gleason (26:49.93) of Dresden was fourth in the young men’s 5K racewalk, and Sarah Peak (33:44.14) of Farmington and Sarah Whitney (34:06.03) of Lincoln were seventh and eighth in the young women’s 5K racewalk.
