Northeast bases named in Pentagon plan

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld has proposed reorganizing U.S. military bases to save money and streamline services, including 54 Air Guard locations. Some are slated for closure or downsizing. Others would grow. A look at the bases in the Northeast and how many net jobs, military and civilian, the Pentagon estimates would be affected:

Connecticut:

. Bradley International Airport Air Guard Station: Downsize. -70 jobs.

Maine:

. Bangor International Airport Air Guard Station: Gain. +240 jobs.

Massachusetts:

. Otis Air Guard Base: Close. -505 jobs.

. Barnes Municipal Airport Air Guard Station: Gain. +107 jobs.

New York:

. Niagara Falls International Airport Air Guard Station: Close. -642 jobs.

. Schenectady County Air Guard Station: Downsize. -19 jobs.

Rhode Island:

. Quonset State Airport Air Guard Station: Gain. +46 jobs.

Vermont:

. Burlington International Airport Air Guard Station: Gain. +56 jobs.
