BREWER – More than 50 relatives and friends gathered on July 30 at the Arey Center in North Bucksport to celebrate the 90th birthday of Arline H. Stearns of Brewer.

Loved ones came from as far away as Washington state and Arizona, and granddaughter Barbara Sawyer came up for the occasion from Darien, Ga.

A group of friends had a jam session for her, which was enjoyed by all. Those attending included former co-workers from Doug’s Shop ‘n Save in Brewer.

Arline Hewey was born in Orrington to George F. and Margaret M. (Parrish) Hewey, and weighed just 3 pounds at birth. She attended school in Orrington and graduated from Brewer High School in 1932.

She and husband E. Lewis Stearns, who died in 1952, were the parents of Bob Stearns, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Stearns was a meat wrapper for many years at the A&P in Brewer, at A.J. Bayless Markets in Flagstaff, Ariz., and then at Doug’s Shop ‘n Save.

Friends said she is known for her pleasant smile and her kind, thoughtful ways. She is a life member of Tuscan Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She lives in Brewer with her miniature poodle, Mickey.
