There was nothing “soft” about a recreational softball game played at the Union Street ball field in Bangor on Wednesday night for Joshua Stevens, 27, of Hermon.
Stevens and his teammate, Jude Sirois, 31, of Brewer, were playing in the game at 8:20 p.m., when they got into an argument on where to position the infield, police reports said.
After the inning, the two walked back to the dugout, still bickering. Police reports said that Sirois told Stevens not to talk to him, and Stevens replied “fine,” and told him not to talk to him either.
At that point, Sirois turned around and punched Stevens in the face with his fist. Stevens believed his nose was broken and went to Eastern Maine Medical Center to be treated, police reports said.
Police reports said that Stevens made no threatening statements or gestures to Sirois and also indicated that Sirois was apologetic for the incident.
Sirois was issued a summons for assault and police asked Stevens to provide them with a copy of his medical records which resulted from the incident, police reports said.
