Bangor 16-under wins 2 in national tournament

LAGRANGE, Ga. – Bangor remained alive in the Class B National Championship ASA 16-under softball tournament with an offensive explosion that produced 23 runs in two games Friday.

Bangor beat Brewer 8-3 and defeated previously unbeaten Saratoga, N.Y., 15-5.

Bangor plays host team LaGrange at 11 a.m. today.

In the first game, Tawnya Godinez doubled twice and drove in five runs to lead Bangor past their regional rivals.

Katy MacDonald pitched a five-hitter while notching five strikeouts and walking no one. Amy Hackett had two singles and two RBIs for Bangor

Jordan McLain and Sarah Risser each doubled for Brewer, which was eliminated.

In the second game, Stacey Gomm walked four while throwing another five-hitter as her team belted out 18 hits.

Gomm had three singles and three RBIs for 2-1 Bangor while Hackett had two singles and a double. Stevenson had three singles and Erica Tweedie added two.

Laura Byer singled twice and Katie Ives doubled for Saratoga.

ASA 14-under softball

West Cobb 8, Bangor 2

At Marietta, Ga., Marlee Gold pitched a three-hitter while notching two strikeouts and walking four batters to lead the unbeaten West Cobb (Ga.) Extreme to the win over Bangor in the ASA 14-Under East National softball tournament Friday.

The loss eliminates Bangor from the field with a 3-2 record.

Sam Besse led Bangor with a double. Singles by Lindsay Stevenson and Katie Guare were the only other hits.

Allie Johnson paced West Cobb with a double and a single. Sarah Johnson hit two singles.
