BINGHAM – Officials are investigating the death of a 48-year-old Bingham man who died minutes after a fight with another man outside the Moose Alley Inn, police said.

Blaine Beane died about 11 p.m. Sunday in an ambulance on the way to Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.

“This was a fight between these two men; they did know each other,” McCausland said.

The other man was from Bingham, but McCausland declined to identify him pending the outcome of an autopsy. A decision on whether charges will be filed won’t be made until after the autopsy.

“They are telling us they are going to do some more study before they are able to conclude the cause of the death,” McCausland said. “We are working with the Attorney General’s Office.”

Leo Schultz, the owner of Moose Alley Inn sports bar and restaurant, said Beane ate dinner and had a lunch made up for the next day before leaving.

“It wasn’t here the problem happened, it was outside. The place was shut up and kind of relaxed when my kids came in screaming that Blaine was lying in the street and he was hurt,” Schultz said.

He said the other person involved was a young man under the age of 21. He refused to speculate on what happened.

“What I know would just be rumors, and I’d like to see justice done,” Schultz said.
