A concerned driver followed an erratically operated vehicle Thursday night from Veazie to State Street in Bangor and reported it to police on his cell phone. Police arrested a Bangor man and charged him with operating under the influence of intoxicants and operating after suspension.
At around 7:30 p.m. the driver was following the brown truck of Todd Perreault, 40, of Bangor and observed it cross the center line several times and almost hit guardrails in Veazie, police reports said.
Bangor police recognized Perreault’s vehicle as it stopped at the intersection of State and Boyd streets. They followed the truck to The Terraces apartments where the officer then turned on his blue lights.
Perreault looked back at the police car numerous times, police reports said, but didn’t stop until the officer yelled out the window for him to stop.
When the officer got out of his car, Perreault got out of his own. The officer said, “Blue means stop; don’t you know that?” Perreault confirmed that he did.
When officers asked Perreault if he had been drinking, he said he hadn’t, but earlier had been around people who were.
Police reports said Perreault said that his license was under suspension. After Perreault was transported to the station, the officer found a half bottle of vodka in the drivers’ side rear door.
Perreault refused a breath test at the police station and was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, according to police reports.
Three people involved in a three-car accident on Maine Avenue in Bangor Friday morning escaped with only minor injuries.
A 16-year-old Bangor youth traveling west on Maine Avenue sideswiped the vehicle of Eileen Carroll, 41, of Bangor. After making contact with Carroll, the youth then hit the vehicle of James Fogg, 45, of Bradley, causing both vehicles to leave the road.
Bangor Police and Fire departments responded to the scene, but only Carroll complained of minor leg injuries. She was not transported to the hospital.
The youth’s car suffered $2,500 damage, Carroll’s $3,000 and Fogg’s truck $800.
