3 charged after pot seizure in two towns

BINGHAM – Police seized nearly 300 marijuana plants and other drugs Thursday as the result of two separate search warrants at homes in Bingham and Norridgewock.

Three people were charged after Thursday’s investigation by the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, according to a Sheriff’s Department press release issued Friday.

In Bingham, officers discovered nearly 250 high-grade marijuana plants, ranging from 6 to 8 feet tall, at the High Street residence of Jessica Wade, 27, and Dana Robinson, 40. Also seized during the search were processed marijuana, pills, cultivation equipment and drug paraphernalia, the press release stated.

Wade was charged with aggravated cultivation of marijuana and trafficking in marijuana. Robinson was charged with aggravated trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in marijuana.

Numerous pot plants also were found at another High Street residence, but no charges or additional details have been released in that case, according to the press release.

In Norridgewock, officers seized 34 high-grade marijuana plants from the Winding Hill Road residence and property of Lloyd James Ross, 38, the press release stated. Police also found cocaine, more than $7,000 in cash, scales, processed marijuana packaged for sale, contents of two indoor growing rooms, two freezers, cultivation equipment and drug paraphernalia.

Ross was charged with aggravated cultivation and trafficking of marijuana, aggravated furnishing in marijuana, and possession of marijuana and a Schedule W drug.

The drug charges against Ross were elevated because he has prior felony drug convictions in Maine, as well as other drug convictions in Connecticut and Virginia, according to the press release.

Detective Lt. Carl E. Gottardi II of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department obtained the Bingham and Norridgewock search warrants, which were conducted by Somerset County Deputies Thomas Rourke, James Ross and Dan Misner. Kennebec County deputies and Fairfield police also participated in Thursday’s investigation.

Earlier this month, police charged Janice Giggey, 30, of Bingham with trafficking and possession of a Schedule W drug after searching her Murray Street home. Police found numerous pills and drug paraphernalia during the Aug. 5 search, according to the press release.
