Imaginative Denzel, 11, likes music

Born in April 1994, Denzel is an active and articulate child who is often helpful to caregivers.

Denzel has an active interest in music and is learning to play the trumpet. He also enjoys outdoor activities, such as riding his bike and playing a variety of games, and playing basketball.

A smart kid, Denzel has a great imagination. He has been described by those who know him best as a happy and energetic child who talks openly with others.

Denzel can be very polite and charming and thrives on the one-on-one attention he receives from others. Denzel enjoys school and receives special education services. When he comes home from school, Denzel does his homework without prompting.

A child who can act impulsively and exhibit oppositional behavior at times, Denzel responds best to a higher level of structure and supervision. He would be most successful in a nurturing, two-parent family.

Denzel participates in weekly therapy and his adoptive family will need to participate in therapy with him following his adoption. Denzel has expressed to his caseworker and others who work with him that he would like to be adopted by an African-American family. He does not have any contact with his birth family.

Adoption subsidy may be available to the most appropriate adoptive family.

Denzel is one of 222 Maine children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services care who is seeking an adoptive family. For more information about Denzel or other children available for adoption, please contact A Family for ME at 1-877-505-0545.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
