FORT KENT – Joanne Fortin, registered nurse and director of nurses at Northern Maine Medical Center, recently announced that Carol Roy has been named nurse manager of the hospital’s inpatient psychiatric services.

Roy comes to NMMC after having held a number of nursing and administrative positions at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Frenchville for more than 24 years. During that time, she spent nine years as director of nurses.

Roy resides in Frenchville with her husband, Philip, and their three children.

FORT KENT – Martin Bernstein, CEO of Northern Maine Medical Center, recently announced the arrival of three physicians that have arrived in the region and have begun their practices in the St. John Valley.

Dr. Alexandre Andrianov recently completed his residency at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, N.Y. His medical interests include management of patients with cardiology, diabetes, asthma, and chronic lung disease. Currently residing in Madawaska, Dr. Andrianov, along with his wife, Marino, and two children, plan to take permanent residence in Fort Kent. He is now seeing patients in Madawaska.

Dr. Manish Punwani recently completed her residency in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. During her last year, she was named as chief resident. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Association of Psychiatric Administrators, and the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law. She is married and resides in Fort Kent.

Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and completed his residency in Adult Psychiatry at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He completed an advanced residency in Consultation Psychiatry from Yale University School of Medicine, in New Haven, Conn. He is married and resides in Fort Kent.

Drs. Andrianov and Mohamed are now seeing patients in Madawaska. Those wishing to see Dr. Andrianov may call the Madawaska Outpatient Center at 728-6359. Dr. Punwani is available to see patients at her office at Station Hill Medical Office Building in Fort Kent. Appointments for both doctors can be made by calling 834-3101.

FORT KENT – The University of Maine at Fort Kent Alumni Association will honor a current university student and sitting University of Maine System Trustee with its Outstanding Future Alumni award.

Chad Marquis of Fort Kent will be presented the honor at the annual UMFK Alumni and Friends Banquet Saturday, Sept. 17. The award will be presented by Megan Foreman, recipient of last year’s award, following a tribute to Marquis delivered by his father, James Marquis, a retired educator.

Earlier this year, Marquis was appointed to the University of Maine System Board of Trustees as the lone student trustee representing the student body systemwide. He is the first student trustee attending UMFK ever to sit on the board.

Marquis, 29, is completing his business internship at Thibodeau’s Insurance Agency in Fort Kent. He will graduate in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and plans to begin work on a master’s degree.

UMFK alumni and members of the public are encouraged to attend the banquet. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through the university relations and alumni affairs office by calling 834-7557. The evening will be followed by a dance featuring Rock Dox.
