Jessica Feeley of Caribou, after reading the Aug. 16 story about rickrack in the Creating section, shared her own ideas for using the colorful trim. Her mother-in-law, Bobbi O’Shaughnessy of York decorates with rickrack burp cloths she makes as a gift for new mothers in her family.

“Even if you use disposal diapers,” Feeley said, “you still need burp cloths. It’s such a great idea, I wanted to hand it on.”

Feeley also said that when she took a Nordic knitting class in Caribou last winter, it was required that students in the class read the By Hand column every week.
