Reading, Thomas earn national rankings

Mariah Reading and Erin Thomas, who compete for the Old Town-Orono YMCA’s Canoe City Swim Club, finished the 2005 short course season ranked at or near the top of their age groups in a number of events.

Reading’s time of 33.80 seconds in the 50-yard breaststroke put her atop the YMCA national rankings in the 10-and-under age group. She also ranked second in the 100 individual medley, in which she broke a national record; second in the 100 backstroke (state record); fourth in the 50 and 100 freestyle; fifth in the 50 butterfly and seventh in the 50 back and 200 IM. She was also fourth in the 100 IM and fifth in the 50 breaststroke in the United States Swimming national rankings.

Thomas, who broke a USS state record in the senior girls 100-meter free, was ranked sixth nationally in the 100 free and eighth in the 200 free by the YMCA.
