BREWER – Police arrested an Ellsworth man in Ellsworth on Tuesday in connection with last week’s strong-arm robbery outside the Marden’s store.

Jamie Leigh Brown, 25, was charged with robbery and violating conditions of release after authorities linked him to the Aug. 18 robbery of a man in the parking lot of the Wilson Street surplus and salvage store, Detective Sgt. Jay Munson of the Brewer Police Department said Tuesday.

In an effort to identify the robber, Brewer police posted on its Web site pictures of the suspect taken on the store’s video surveillance. The pictures showed the man inside the store before the robbery.

Ellsworth police Detective Dottie Small recognized the man on the Web site and contacted Brewer police Friday, Munson said. The Hancock County Drug Task Force also helped identify Brown as the suspect, the detective said.

Authorities worked on the case over the weekend and, with help from the task force and Ellsworth police, convinced Brown to meet them at the Hancock County district attorney’s office where Munson and Brewer police Officer Anthony Pinette arrested him about 5:20 p.m.

Brown allegedly approached a man in the store parking lot, took his wallet by force and fled. Munson reported that the undisclosed amount of money taken was not recovered.
