ARDMORE, Pa. – Jesse Speirs of Bangor shot a second-round 77 Tuesday and was eliminated from contention at the U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion Golf Club. Speirs, who shot 71 Monday, finished at 148. That left him two strokes shy of earning a spot in today’s tiebreaker round and 13 strokes behind leader James Lepp of Canada.

Jay Livingston of Kennebunk (81-86-167) also failed to qualify.
