Get bowled over during the Chowder Challenge, part of Camden’s 11th annual Windjammer Weekend. Visitors will have a chance to sample and vote on chowders from local restaurants. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, and Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Camden Public Landing. The tasting costs $5 per person and proceeds benefit the Windjammer Weekend fireworks display. For information, visit www.windjammerweekend.com.

If the mention of college cafeteria food brings to mind mystery stews, overcooked chicken and limp veggies, perhaps you should transfer to Bowdoin. According to The Princeton Review’s book “The Best 361 Colleges,” the Brunswick campus serves the nation’s best cafeteria food. It’s Tomato Tasting Week in Maine, and tastings will take place at farmers markets, retail stores and farm stands throughout the state.
