BANGOR – What would happen if, one night, the light in the moon burned out, and somewhere in your crowded attic, you had the replacement bulb? Such is the dilemma posed by Wolfe Bowart in “LaLaLuna,” the international physical comedian’s new solo show. Hot on the heels of his sell-out tour of Australia, Bowart returns to Maine for two benefit performances of “LaLaLuna” in honor of the Maine Children’s Alliance.
“LaLaLuna” a poetic comic-drama created by one of today’s masters of physical theater, is a surreal and visually stunning magical adventure told in circus arts, puppetry, interactive film and Bowart’s signature physicality.
Midcoast residents who caught last October’s packed performances of “The Shneedles” have had a taste of Bowart’s riotous and profound antics, and now he’s unleashing himself on other parts of Maine for the most worthy of causes.
The Maine Children’s Alliance has invited Bowart to perform “LaLaLuna” at:
. 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Bangor Opera House, Main Street, Bangor.
. 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Portland High School Theatre, Portland.
A playwright, director, performer and educator previously commissioned by Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum, the California Youth Theatre and Maine’s Arts Center at Kingdom Falls among others, Bowart is the artistic director and originator of “The Shneedles,” the circus and physical comedy sensation regularly on tour in Europe, Japan, Australia and Singapore.
The Maine Children’s Alliance is committed to improving the lives of Maine’s children, youth and families by providing leadership to create or improve policy on their behalf. The alliance regularly functions as a catalyst, encouraging collaboration among the many child services agencies, communities and policymakers in Maine by bringing groups together to create coalitions in support of policy initiatives that benefit children.
The alliance is a comprehensive source of information about the well-being and needs of Maine’s children. As an advocate, the MCA is a constant presence in state policy arenas as well as a resource at the local and national levels, presenting an assertive, clear and influential position of children’s issues.
