PORTLAND – Catcher Charles Johnson and manager Carlos Tosca are the inaugural inductees to the Portland Sea Dogs Hall of Fame. Fans chose them from a list of four former players and three nonplayers.
Johnson, the team’s first superstar, hit two home runs in the franchise’s first game in 1994 and hit .264 with 28 home runs and 80 RBIs that season. He become the Florida Marlins’ starting catcher a year later.
Tosca was the Sea Dogs’ first manager. His teams posted a 229-195 record and made two playoff appearances in three seasons. He was the Eastern League Manager of the Year in 1996.
