Katy LePage of Skowhegan made her collegiate debut with two goals and Old Town’s Shaunessy Saucier chipped in with three assists as the University of Maine field hockey team earned a 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart Saturday, but the Black Bears fell to Connecticut 7-0 in Sunday’s game in Storrs, Conn.

In Saturday’s game, Meagan Connolly, Joanna Fernandes and Gina Legge each contributed a goal in Maine’s season-opener. Former Old Town High standout Kasey Spencer had an assist and Rebecca Giroux of Augusta saved all four Sacred Heart shots.

Carisa Eye had a goal and an assist for the 0-1 Pioneers.

In Sunday’s game, Lizzy Peigs scored two goals to help lead the 2-0 Huskies. Melissa Bostwick made saves on four shots.

Giroux and Maygan Cassarino combined to stop five of 20 shots for 1-1 UMaine.
