UM can’t convert in loss to Friars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Maine Black Bears outshot the Providence College Friars 18-5 but were unable to capitalize Sunday in a 2-0 women’s soccer loss.

Kelly Determan had a goal and an assist for 1-0 Providence. Kelly Pettersen added a goal and Ashley Fedyshyn made eight saves.

Tanya Adorno stopped two shots for 1-1 Maine.

Maine splits at tourney

At Orono, the Black Bears rallied to beat Fairfield 3-2 but fell to Montana 3-1 in the final day of the ASICS Invitational Saturday.

In the first match, Shannan Fotter led Maine with 18 kills and five blocks as the Bears posted scores of 30-18, 25-30, 26-30, 30-22, 15-13. Kaili Jordan added 17 kills and 22 digs. Lindsey Lee and Jazmin Pa’akaula each had 12 kills for Fairfield.

In the second match, Maine took the second game but was unable rally past Montana, which won 30-21, 27-30, 30-28, 30-27. Claudia Houle paced Montana with 28 kills. Fotter had 18 kills and Leah Guidinger added 15.
