BANGOR – A Levant woman and a North Carolina man pleaded guilty Monday to federal drug charges.
Theresa Mayhew, 26, and Clifton Davis, 24, of Potecasi, N.C., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Bangor to being part of a drug ring that sold cocaine out of two Bangor residences and local motels.
Their sentencing dates have not been set.
Bangor police arrested Mayhew and Davis on April 19, 2004, along with Kelvin Deloatch, 23, of Woodland, N.C., and Chelsea Andrews, 24, of Brookline, Mass.
Deloatch and Andrews pleaded guilty earlier this year to the charges. Their sentencing dates have not been set.
All are charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to distribute and possess cocaine. Each faces between five and 20 years in prison and fines of up to $1 million on the conspiracy charge alone.
After the four defendants entered their guilty pleas, they were required under federal law to remain in the custody of U.S. marshals until their sentencings. All four are being held in county jails around the state.
The trial of two Bangor men indicted earlier this year for being part of the drug conspiracy ring is scheduled to begin next month in Bangor.
Randy Brimley, 26, and William Ahrendt, 45, were indicted earlier this year by a federal grand jury in connection with the drug conspiracy.
Ahrendt is serving a six-month sentence in Penobscot County Jail for failing to register as a sex offender. Brimley also is facing federal drug charges in Massachusetts and has been detained there.
The case began in April 2004, when members of the Bangor Special Enforcement Team learned from a confidential informant arrested during surveillance of a Garland Street residence that Mayhew was to meet Davis, Deloatch and Andrews, according to court documents.
Police observed Mayhew meet the trio at a bus station and place luggage in the trunk of her car.
A short time later, police pulled Mayhew over and searched the trunk. Inside a duffel bag in the trunk, officers found a pound of cocaine, according to court documents.
In pleading guilty, Mayhew, Davis, Andrews and Deloatch admitted that they sold cocaine not only out of the Garland Street house, but also from a Main Street residence and rooms at local motels.
