A Bangor man who was intoxicated and reading pornographic magazines Tuesday afternoon at the Airport Mall was later arrested for theft.
Michael Gagnon, 27, was found passed out just after 2 p.m. in a drainage ditch near Marshall’s by Officer Chris Blanchard, a police report said.
Blanchard woke the man up and asked him his name and date of birth. Gagnon said his name was John Gagnon and his DOB was Aug. 16, 1977.
When asked if he had been drinking, Gagnon replied “yes, probably too much.”
Gagnon had next to him a red shopping basket from Hannaford containing pornography, some food items and a half-gallon of whiskey. Gagnon said he had paid for the items, even though they weren’t bagged, the report said.
Blanchard then warned the man about drinking in public and trespassing. He also told Gagnon it wasn’t appropriate to read those magazines in public because children could be around.
Gagnon put the magazines in his pocket and walked away.
A half-hour later, Blanchard was again requested to respond to the Airport Mall, this time for a male who had been shoplifting at Hannaford.
Upon entering the loss prevention office, Blanchard noticed it was Gagnon who had been caught.
The employee said Gagnon took bottles of liquor, but believed he had taken items previously because another employee saw him walk out with a red basket.
Blanchard arrested the man for theft and later learned he had six previous arrests for theft and one for receiving stolen property.
A Bangor woman disregarded the one-lane road on outer Broadway Monday night, as she drove through a construction zone.
Karlene Dorey, 39, was driving in her two-door Pontiac near the Six Mile Falls bridge around 8:30 p.m. when she approached the worker holding a stop sign and proceeded to drive into the closed lane, a police report said.
The woman drove over the construction zone and bottomed out her vehicle. After doing so, she continued through the closed area and exited around the barriers.
The car’s estimated damage was $5,000. Dorey complained of pain in her arms, but was not taken to the hospital, the report said.
No charges were filed.
A Hampden man was arrested Tuesday for possession of a Class C scheduled drug and a useable amount of cocaine.
Edward Gastaldo, 19, was the passenger in a dark colored SUV driven by Jessica Howes, 20, of Winterport, when police on bike patrol smelled the burning odor of marijuana wafting from the vehicle on Front Street in Bangor.
Howes said the two were just talking, but when police asked them to step out, a small marijuana cigarette was on the floor of the vehicle, a police report said.
While doing a search, police found a glass pipe with residue and a small scale in the center console.
On Gastaldo, police found nine Percocet tablets wrapped in foil, two 15 mg morphine pills and marijuana.
When asked where he got the pills, Gastaldo said from a friend’s grandmother, but wouldn’t give up the supplier’s name, the report said.
Gastaldo was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail where another search was done. There, three small baggies were found in his sock, all of which tested positive for cocaine.
