Orrington soccer season

ORRINGTON – The Orrington Recreation Commission is busy gearing up for its 2005 soccer season. This year the commission will offer soccer programs for children in prekindergarten through eighth-grade. The commission will register participants at the Center Drive School 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, and 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. The cost is $15 per child or $30 per family.

This year, the recreation commission will feature leagues for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten through grade two, grades 3 through 5 and grades 6 through 8. Depending on the turnout at sign-up, the program will try to feature separate boys and girls leagues for the grade three to five league.

The commission hosted separate programs for boys and girls in this age group during the basketball, baseball and softball seasons, and based on those turnouts are extending it to soccer. All other leagues are coed.

Games will begin Saturday, Sept. 17, and run through late October.

The recreation commission is seeking volunteers to help as coaches, assistant coaches and referees, and to work in the newly constructed snack shack. They also are seeking team sponsors from the community for the teams for grades three through eight.

To keep the community informed of its activities, the recreation commission launched a link on the town of Orrington Web site. Registration forms and updated information such as schedules will be available online at http://orrington.govoffice.com,under the Municipal Departments, Recreation, ORC Forms links.

For more information on the ORC soccer program, call Benny at 825-4549 or Dave at 825-3099.
