Penobscot County sheriffs deputies charged two juveniles Thursday – thanks in large part to community members who came forward with information – in connection with several mailboxes that had been vandalized in Hermon.

Both are 16-year-old boys, one from Corinth and the other from Hermon. Each was charged with aggravated criminal mischief, a Class C offense.

Deputy Michael Adams said Thursday that a Hermon resident came forward and admitted that one of the juveniles had confessed complicity in the vandalism, which had been going on for about two weeks.

Adams said he still is looking for suspects who may be involved.

Bangor police are looking for suspects in a reported burglary at a Sunset Avenue apartment in which approximately $250 worth of coins and a $200 video game system were taken but several other expensive items were spared.

A 32-year-old woman told police that sometime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday someone entered her apartment through a rear entrance, according to a police report by Officer James Dearing.

The woman reported that a large vase full of coins and her son’s piggy bank were taken, along with her son’s X-Box game console, the report said.

Dearing wrote that several items, including a computer and digital camera, were in plain view but were not taken during the burglary.

The investigation is ongoing, but police have little evidence to go on, except for a receipt the woman kept that had a serial number for the X-Box.
