Lyons, Miller lift Eagles to victory over Bucksport

BUCKSPORT – Emily Lyons and Emily Miller each scored second-half goals to lift the Ellsworth Eagles to a 2-1 season-opening girls soccer win over Bucksport Friday.

Catie Cravens had four saves on six shots for Ellsworth.

Sarah Robinson scored in the second half for the Golden Bucks and Katie Hurd stopped five out of seven shots.

Greenville 5, Shead 0

At Eastport, Hannah Breton had a hat trick with three goals to lead Greenville to the win.

Kahla Lander scored two goals for 1-0 Greenville. Tasha Elsemore had two assists and Brittney Bouchor had an assist. Bethany Bartley and Breton combined to stop all six shots.

Dorothy Pottle made 14 saves on 20 shots for 0-1 Shead.

George Stevens 4, Central 0

At Blue Hill, Winslow Brokaw scored a goal and assisted another to help lead George Stevens Academy to the win.

Emily Peake, Laura Overton, and Brittany Olivari each scored a goal for 1-0 George Stevens. Chelsea Duddy and Fiona Schubeck both had an assist. Kayla Eaton made four saves on five shots.

Jessica Daniel stopped 30 of 34 shots for 0-1 Central.

Messalonskee 2, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Alexandria Smith scored on a Kaitlin Watson assist with 10:40 left in the first half to lead Messalonskee to the win.

Abigail Tonge added a second-half goal on an assist from Kate Tonge for 1-0 Messalonskee. Katie O’Leary made four saves on eight shots.

Nicole Guay stopped eight of 16 shots for 0-1 Old Town.

John Bapst 4, MDI 1

At Mount Desert Island, Whitney Sinclair had a hat trick with three goals to push John Bapst of Bangor past Mount Desert Island.

Hayley Cutri scored a goal for 1-0 John Bapst and Caroline Cassling stopped five of 13 shots.

Katy Klaver scored a second-half goal for the 0-1 Trojans. Christina McKay made 17 saves on 22 shots.

JV: John Bapst 1-0

Penobscot Val. 4, Piscataquis 2

At Guilford, Molly Thompson scored two goals to help lift Penobscot Valley of Howland past Piscataquis.

Kasey Plourde and Ashley Dawson both scored a goal for 1-0 Penobscot Valley. Jennifer Plourde made seven saves on nine shots.

Jessica Crouse and Christine Davis each scored a goal for 0-1 Piscataquis and Jackie Crouse made an assist. Jill Martell stopped 16 of 20 shots.

Foxcroft Acad. 2, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Leslie Martin scored to goals to push Foxcroft Academy to the win.

Kelsey Hill and Lauren Kousaie each had an assist for 1-0 Foxcroft. Brittany Sadley stopped eight of nine shots.

Cassie White scored with 25 minutes left for 0-1 Hermon. Ashley Kelley made 18 saves on 20 shots.

Hampden 6, Skowhegan 4

At Skowhegan, Searsport transfer Nori Francis-Mezger scored five goals in her Bronco debut, including the game-winner that broke a 4-4 tie with 24 minutes left and an insurance goal 20 minutes later.

Isabel Cravens had a goal and an assist for the Broncos with Annaliese Lafayette contributing two assists and Mikki Libbey, Jenna Shue and Lauren Maltz adding one apiece. Michelle Wells had five saves on 14 shots.

Kristi Poland had two goals for Skowhegan. Danielle Goff and Nicole Paradis had goal and an assist each and Brittany Gould made 16 saves on 34 shots.

Boys Soccer

MCI 2, Medomak Valley 1 (OT)

At Waldoboro, Dustin Varney took a through ball from Brandon Glencross, beat a defender and slipped the ball past goalie Robert Glaue 25 seconds into overtime to give Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield its victory in a mutual season-opener.

Alex Sidelinger scored in the first half off a Varney pass before Medomak Valley’s Gardner Dyer equalized with five minutes left in regulation.

Tristan Goewey made six saves on 10 shots for the winners while Glaue stopped 12 of 20 shots.

Greenville 5, Shead 1

At Greenville, Durgin McKusick scored three goals to lead Greenville past Shead of Eastport.

Kyle Whitman added two goals and one assist for 1-0 Greenville. Joe Jardine had two assists and Corey Woodbury had an assist. Brandon Lavigne stopped six of seven shots.

Aaron Sullivan scored penalty kick for 0-1 Shead. Craig Hastings made seven saves on 22 shots.

Waterville 2, Brewer 1

At Brewer, Jack L’Heureux and John Jaber each scored for the Purple Panthers in the win.

Noah Spofford assisted on Jaber’s goal for 1-0 Waterville. Tory Quinn had six saves on seven shots.

Andrew Richardson scored unassisted for 0-1 Brewer. Mike Kotredes stopped six out of 14 shots.

JV: Waterville 4-0

Piscataquis 3, Penobscot Val. 2

At Howland, Jarrod Robinson scored an unassisted goal with 20 minutes left in the second half give Piscataquis the narrow win.

Mike Wharff and Roy Burdin both scored a first-half goal for 1-0 Piscataquis of Guilford. Ryan Martell made 15 saves on 18 shots.

Ryan Ware and Cory Soucy each scored a first-half goal for Penobscot Valley. Brian Harris stopped 13 of 17 shots.

Mt. Blue 3, Nokomis 0

At Farmington, Devin Fereirra scored on a Greg Allen assist in the first half to push Mt. Blue past Nokomis of Newport.

Dan Hayden and Alex Prentiss both scored a goal for 1-0 Mt. Blue and Dan Deveau had an assist. Justin Davis made five saves on seven shots.

Wayne May stopped 16 of 25 shots for 0-1 Nokomis

Belfast 3, Winslow 1

At Belfast, Jillian Ross scored two second-half goals to help lead Belfast to victory.

Kelsey Jackson scored a goal for 1-0 Belfast. Britt Cummings, Kallie Aldus, and Jamie Flagg each had an assist. Liz Anderson made no saves on one shot.

Nicole Bombardi scored an unassisted goal with 20 minutes left in the second half for 0-1 Winslow. Emma Watters stopped 17 of 20 shots.

JV: Belfast 1-0

Camden Hills 1, Mount View 0

At Rockport, Megan Bauer scored on a Georgia Smith assist with 15:58 left in the first half to give Camden Hills the win.

Dale Whinsper stopped all 11 shots for 1-0 Camden Hills.

Carrie Beverage stopped one of two shots for 0-1 Mount View of Thorndike.

JV: Mount View 2-1

Foxcroft Acad. 2, Nokomis 1

At Foxcroft, Molly Cyr scored two goals to lead Foxcroft Academy to victory.

Morgan Rice made 11 saves on 13 shots for 1-0 Foxcroft Academy.

Erin Knight scored a goal with nine minutes left for 0-1 Nokomis of Newport. Lauren Lancaster stopped 13 of 15 shots.
