Quint sparks Huskies Mattanawcook, Rockland win

MILLINOCKET – Victor Quint’s 62-yard touchdown gallop with six minutes left in the game lifted the Maine Central Institute Huskies to a 24-19 high school football win over the Stearns Minutemen in the mutual opener Friday night.

Quint totaled 77 yards rushing while Josh Sawyer added a 46-yard touchdown run.

Gene Kim paced the Minutemen with 34 carries for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Shawn Picard notched seven tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

MA Lynx 48, Orono 19

At Lincoln, Duncan Markie racked up 235 yards on 18 carries and a 44-yard touchdown in the second quarter as the Lynx cruised to the win.

Mattananwcook outscored Orono 20-6 in the third quarter to put the clamps on the Red Riots.

Jason Murchison had 94 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns for MA. Dylan Hanscom completed 7 of 10 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns, both to Cory Kimball (three catches, 57 yards).

Mardy Simon had 180 yards on 18 carries and a 75-yard punt return touchdown for Orono.

Rockland 26, Foxcroft 19

At Rockland, Mike Marsh and Andrew Weiss combined to run for 257 yards on 40 carries and Weiss also threw for 115 yards as Rockland built a 26-7 lead and withstood a Foxcroft Academy rally in the fourth quarter to post the victory.

Marsh rushed for 130 yards on 15 carries while Weiss had 127 yards on 25 carries and completed 8 of 21 passes.

Marsh’s 43-yard touchdown run opened the scoring and, after FA’s Jarod Rideout ran eight yards for a TD, Marsh hauled in a 15-yard TD pass from Weiss.

Weiss threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Josh Elwell and Marsh capped the first-half scoring with a one-yard plunge.

James McPhee scored on runs of one and 10 yards in the final 4:52 of the game.

McPhee gained 135 yards on 22 carries and Rideout had 83 more yards on 15 attempts. Logan Forrest completed three-of-10 passes for 80 yards.

Belfast 20, Gardiner 17

At Belfast, Andy Whalen threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hugh Morse in overtime to give the Belfast Lions a 20-17 PTC Class B football victory over the Gardiner Tigers Friday night in the mutual opener.

Whalen had a two-yard touchdown run with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to force overtime for Belfast.

Sean Leeman had 30 carries for 216 yards and a touchdown for the Lions and Whalen completed 3 of nine 9 for 59 yards.

Dan Fortune had 12 carries for 89 yards, including a touchdown for Gardiner, and Kyle Stilphen was five for 13 passing for 85 yards.

At Madison, Woody Noyes racked up 162 yards on just nine carries and four touchdowns, the longest of which was a 63-yard gallop in the third quarter, as the Bulldogs rolled.

Mitch Steward notched 100 yards on 16 rushes with a pair of scores for Madison. Tim Fortin led the defense with 10 tackles and scooped up a fumble from 10 yards out and returned it for a touchdown. Alex Grover added six tackles.

At Hampden, Jon Hart and Tyler Madore each scored two touchdowns to lead Waterville to the win.

Quarterback Dan Hussey had a two-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for Waterville.

Waterville had 231 rushing yards and was 1 for 4 passing for 20 yards.

Som Ratasakongsky scored Hampden’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hampden had 148 yards rushing and was 2 for 7 passing with 22 yards.

At Jay, the Tigers defense held the Golden Bucks offense to six first downs and 140 yards of total offense en route to the win.

Ryan Bourra paced Jay’s offense with 13 carries, 72 yards and a touchdown while Zane Armady had seven carries, 59 yards and a score.

Chris Maguire fired a 20-yard touchdown pass to Clay Ferro in the fourth quarter for Bucksport.

At Old Town, Nick Brown rushed for 77 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Oak Hill of Sabattus to victory.

Wally Rines ran for 146 yards and scored a touchdown for Oak Hill. Eric Daniels rushed for 95 yards and scored a touchdown and had seven tackles.

Jarrett Lukas had 130 yards of offense and scored a touchdown for Old Town. Nate Emerson had eight tackles and two fumble recoveries and Jared Goody had 10 tackles.
