NEW LONDON, Conn. – Four different players notched a goal apiece for the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a season-opening women’s soccer win over the Coast Guard Academy 4-1 Friday.

Eva Hanson, Regina Wilson, Danica Martin and Liz Brunton each netted a goal for 1-0 Southern Maine. Mindy Morneault had four saves on six shots.

Hofstra 1, Maine 0

At the Boston University Terrier Classic in Boston, Chrissy Arnone converted a perfect through ball from Sue Weber midway through the second half as Hofstra improved to 1-1-1.

Becky Wachsberger made two saves on eight shots in posting her school-record 26th career save. Hofstra outshot the 1-2 Black Bears 14-8.

Tanya Adorno made two saves for the Bears.

Volleyball

Maine drops two

At Chestnut Hill, Mass., Ashlee Wright had 14 digs in the 30-26, 30-23, 23-30, 30-20 loss to Syracuse in the first game of the Boston College Invitational. Stanford won the second game against the Black Bears 30-19, 30-20, 30-15.

Men’s soccer

Providence 4, Maine 0

At Kingston, R.I., Eoin Lynch of Yarmouth scored three goals to lead Providence by Maine in the URI Men’s Soccer Classic in the mutual opener.

Chris Konopka made two saves on six shots for Providence and Jack Brunino made two saves on nine shots for Maine.
