The show must go on, no matter what the season, which is why you have the opportunity to enjoy this fall – instead of last spring – one of the most delightful amateur volunteer performances in this area when you attend the Y-Players’ production of “Disney Princesses 30 Years Later.”

Showtimes are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16; 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18; 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Bangor Y on Second Street.

Admission is by donation.

“Our very creative director, Pam Martin, came up with a hilarious script using … characters taken from children’s classics familiar to us all,” wrote 93-year-old Y-Player Anna Waring of Old Town.

“Did you ever stop to wonder what happened to Cinderella and her ugly stepsisters and stepmother?” she asked. “How about Red Riding Hood and Snow White, the Little Mermaid, Tinkerbell, Rapunzel and many others, when they got old? Come see our show to find out!”

Circumstances forced the Y-Players to reschedule their usual spring show, so rehearsals began in August, and now the curtain is going up on six fun-filled performances.

Proceeds will benefit programs of the Bangor Y, the new organization formed by the combination of the Bangor YMCA and YWCA of Bangor-Brewer.

After the productions at the Y, Waring wrote, “we take the show on the road,” offering a shortened version for veterans homes, senior centers, museums and other groups and organizations.

Robert and Mary’s Place, based in Ellsworth, provides adult day care for area residents with memory loss.

Ida Page reports “the time has come to replace our van” because of the high maintenance costs, which include repairs to “a bad cylinder.”

Those who use the van “could not attend the program if we did not supply transportation, and I don’t know what they will do if the van breaks down completely,” Page wrote.

A seven-passenger van, preferably with a back door on both sides, “seems to meet our needs,” she wrote, explaining that “some of the friends have difficulty climbing all the way across the seats.”

If anyone has a van to donate, that would be absolutely wonderful, but monetary donations “would certainly help if we don’t get a van,” Page added.

Contributions can be made to Robert and Mary’s Place, P.O. Box 5288, 50 Meadow View Lane, Ellsworth 04605.
