SURRY – A Surry man died Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on Newberry Neck Road.

Kenton Griffith, 48, was dead at the scene of the accident, according to police.

Griffith apparently was driving a moped/motorcycle hybrid when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road. The vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Officers at the scene were uncertain why the vehicle left the road. No skid marks were found, according to Deputy Andrew Feeney of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Officers are investigating whether health issues might have been a factor.
