Second-half surge lifts Mariners past Sumner

EAST SULLIVAN – Bryant Ciomei, Tabor Johnson, Max Betton and Collin Ciomei each scored a second-half goal as the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners pulled away for a 6-1 schoolboy soccer win over the Sumner Tigers after leading 2-1 at the half on Tuesday.

Mike Douglas scored two first-half goals for the 1-1 winners and Eben Powers made six saves on 17 shots.

Timmy Kidder scored off a Jon Naumann assist for 0-2 Sumner and Mason Young made 16 saves on 24 shots.

Greenville 7, Valley 0

At Bingham, Kyle Whitman and Richie Chilson scored two goals each and Joe Jardine contributed a goal and two assists as Greenville moved to 3-0.

Corey Woodbury had a goal and an assist and Kevin Lebel had the other goal. Brandon Lavigne made eight saves.

Travis Hovey made 12 saves on 26 shots for 0-3 Valley.

Bangor Christian 6, Central 2

At Bangor, Ignacio Bustos tallied three goals and one assists to lead the Patriots to the win.

Brock Bradford registered two goals plus an assist for the 1-0 winners and Zach Kutz added a goal. Josh Frost had 10 saves on 12 shots.

Tyler Steede and Danny Kane had a goal apiece for 1-1 Central of Corinth. Scott Kelly provided an assist and Charles Haney stopped 10 out of 16 shots.

JV: Central 3-1

John Bapst 6, Foxcroft 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Pat Kane scored three goals and assisted on another to pace John Bapst of Bangor to its second win in as many games.

Nick Hubbard had a goal and an assist with Jordan Meyers and Ian Bamford collecting the other goals. Josh Jameson had an assist and Chris Smith made five saves on nine shots.

Don Shin and Victor Codina scored for 0-2 Foxcroft Academy and Albert Kim assisted on both goals. Jake Dever made 18 saves on 25 shots.

JV: John Bapst 7-0

MDI 3, Bucksport 0

At Bar Harbor, Sean Murphy tallied a goal and an assist as the Trojans triumphed.

Ben Young and Daniel Hilliard each had a goal and Eric St. Denis an assist for 1-1 MDI. Max Blandford stopped all seven shots he faced.

Miles Bisher had nine saves on 18 shots for 0-1 Bucksport.

JV: MDI 3-1

Orono 4, Penquis 0

At Milo, Jeff Normand scored two goals and notched an assist to lead the Red Riots.

Tom Smyth and David Anderson each added a goal for the 1-0 winners while Dan Ohno and Tony Raymond had an assist apiece. Ian Staples made five saves on eight shots.

For 0-2 Penquis, Nick Emery made 12 saves on 20 shots.

Lee 4, Schenck 1

At Lee, Drew Pickering knocked in three goals while cousin Peter dished out two assists as the Pandas rolled to the win.

Minh Gurhee scored 1-0 Lee’s other goal while Chris King made six saves on 12 shots.

Kerry Thompson scored unassisted for the 0-1 Wolverines of East Millinocket. Lanny Thompson stopped 19 out of 26 shots.

JV: Schenck 3-2

Hampden Acad. 3, Old Town 2

At Hampden, Andre Cushing’s unassisted goal off a goal-mouth scramble with 16:48 remaining supplied the Broncos with their second win in as many games.

Martin Earley had a goal and an assist, J Uhrin had the other Bronco goal and Camden Murray made two saves on five shots.

Nate Lonko and Dillon Clark scored for 1-1 Old Town and Sam Petrie made 16 saves on 33 shots.

Field hockey

Piscataquis 2, Dexter 1 (2OT)

At Dexter, Hattie Agnew scored unassisted with 4:27 left in the second overtime to give the Pirates of Guilford the win.

Annie Agnew added a goal for 2-0 PCHS. Jessica Pratt had five saves on eight shots.

Denise Robinson scored for the 1-1 Tigers and Katie Porrier made eight saves on nine shots.

JV: Dexter 1-0

Belfast 7, Oak Hill 0

At Sabattus, Jillian Rollins scored three goals and added an assist to lead 2-0 Belfast.

Britt Cummings, Kelsey Jackson, Shondra Stark, and Claire Banks each added a goal for the winners while Callie Aldus, Skye Ellis and Jamie Flagg all had an assist.

Liz Anderson made one save on one shot for Belfast and Frankie Curtis had 18 saves on 25 shots for 0-2 Oak Hill.

Foxcroft Acad. 1, Bangor 0

At Bangor, Jen Gagnon scored the game’s only goal six minutes into the second half with an assist from Amy Molinaro to give the Ponies the win.

Morgan Rice stopped seven out of 14 shots for 2-0 Foxcroft. Sarah Frisk and Sarah Hanselman combined for 18 saves off 19 shots for 0-2 Bangor.

Stearns 6, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Felicia Achorn racked up three goals and Jamie Johnson scored a pair as the Minutemen rolled over Hermon.

Adrianna Eurich added a goal for Millinocket-based Stearns and Micaela Rosebush stopped 16 out of 18 shots.

Kaitlyn Applebby recorded 17 saves on 25 shots for the Hawks.

Mattananwcook 1, Brewer 0 (OT)

At Brewer, Bree Hanscom scored off a pass from Michelle Paul 41 seconds into overtime to lift the Lynx of Lincoln to the win.

Tammy Savage had two saves on three shots for Mattananwcook.

Zora Merrill stopped four out of seven shots for Brewer.

Girls Soccer

Greenville 8, Valley 1

At Bingham, Hannah Breton had three goals and two assists while Kayla Lander had two goals plus one assists as the Lakers rolled.

Beth Bartley tallied two goals and Martha Richardson one for 3-0 Greenville. Bartley and Brittany Boucher had two saves on three shots.

Kristen Baker scored for 1-2 Valley. Morgan Staples stopped 22 out of 30 shots.

George Stevens 4, Searsport 1

At Searsport, Liz Moran and Winslow Brokaw each netted two goals as the Eagles of Blue Hill prevailed.

Kayla Eaton had eight saves on 11 shots for the 2-0 winners.

Tianna Faunce scored the lone goal for the 0-1 Vikings. April Pickering had an assist. Amanda Cheney stopped 14 out of 23 shots.

Dexter 2, Piscataquis 0

At Dexter, Sabrina Cote scored off of a corner kick from Kylie Keene with 16:24 left in the game to ice the win for the Tigers.

Carol Wing had a goal, assisted by Tracy Mountain, with 2:32 left in the first half. Ashley Richardson made three saves out of four shots for 2-0 Dexter.

Jill Martell had 12 saves on 16 shots for 0-2 Piscataquis.

Bucksport 2, MDI 1 (2OT)

At Bucksport, Emily Lenor decided the mutual season-opener by scoring at the 1:25 mark of the second overtime, assisted by Terren Hall.

Lenor assisted on Lindsey Gordon’s second-half goal and Katie Hurd finished with three saves on five shots.

Katie Klaver scored for MDI off a Brenna Crothers assist. Christina McKay made eight saves on 21 shots.

Ellsworth 5, Hermon 0

At Ellsworth, Emily Miller knocked in three goals as the Eagles rolled to the shutout win.

Casey Wyman notched a goal and an assist while Maggie Seavey added a goal for 2-0 Ellsworth. Catie Cravens had four saves on four shots.

Ashley Kelley stopped 23 out of 32 shots for the 0-2 Hawks.

Woodland 5, East Grand 1

At Danforth, Gena Clark led Woodland to victory with two second-half goals.

Heidi Sappier added a goal and two assists, Rachel Torrey scored a goal with an assist, and Kristen Worden had an assist for 1-0 Woodland. Cindi Bergin and Gena Clark combined for seven saves on 22 shots.

Jackie Dodge scored East Grand’s only goal in the first half. Jodie Crone and Courtney Lloyd combined for six saves on seven shots.

Limestone 5, Easton 0

At Limestone, Ellie Dunn scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others as Limestone blanked Easton.

Kellie Peers, Lee Anne Kelly and Eva Smith had the other goals and Melanie Allen made two saves on five shots.

Briana White had 14 saves on 38 shots for Easton.

Van Buren 2, Wisdom 0

At Van Buren, Taylor Parent and Megan Lajoie tallied a goal apiece as the Crusaders blanked Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Amber Martin and Kelly Vaillancourt each had an assist for 2-2-4 Van Buren. Lisa Levasseur had four saves on five shots.

Kayla Daigle blocked nine out of 15 shots for the 3-6 Pioneers.

Caribou 2, Houlton 1

At Caribou, Kristen Espling broke a 1-1 tie off a Jessica Kinney assist with 23:51 remaining to give Caribou its second win against one loss.

Shelby Cousins scored the other Caribou goal with Makayla Gahagan setting her up. Billie Martin made four saves on 10 shots.

Nicole Beals scored for 0-6 Houlton with Jerusha Benn assisting. Nicole Manton made eight stops on 17 shots.

Washburn 2, Cen. Aroostook 0

At Washburn, Kristen Goupille scored on a penalty kick in the first half for the Beavers in the win.

Erica McDougall scored midway through the second half to ice the win for 5-2-1 Washburn. Kelsee McLaughlin notched an assist. Amber Palmer had one save on three shots.

Latisha Neece stopped 25 out of 37 shots for the 0-9 Panthers of Mars Hill.

Fort Fairfield 3, Hodgdon 2

At Hodgdon, Kelsey Towle scored the game-winner with four minutes left in the game.

Kerry Cunningham and Rosemary Williams had the other goals for the 5-0-2 Tigers. Lauren Beckwith saved 17 of 23 shots.

Brianne McGary and Sarah Ryan scored the two goals for Hodgdon while Heather London had 12 saves out of 18 shots for the 4-4 Hawks.

Waterville 5, Nokomis 0

At Waterville, Stephanie Whitten scored three goals as the Purple Panthers rolled.

Kate Caldwell and Paige Gardner added a goal each for 2-0 Waterville. Taylor Hart had 12 saves on 12 shots.

Rozlyn Peterson stopped three out of eight shots for 0-2 Nokomis of Newport.

Shead 4, Calais 1

At Eastport, Patricia Candelmo scored three of Shead’s four second-half goals to lead the Tigerettes after a scoreless first half.

Candelmo also assisted on Laureta Ricker’s goal while Ricker and Randi Smith each notched an assist for the 1-2 winners Dorothy Pottle made seven saves on eight shots.

Courtney Hill scored an unassisted goal for 0-1 Calais and Stephanie Perry made 11 saves on 17 shots.
