SEAN LEEMAN
Leeman, a senior running back for the Belfast High football team, rushed for 216 yards on 30 carries as the Lions opened their season with a 20-17 overtime victory over Gardiner. Leeman also rushed six yards for a touchdown as Belfast rallied from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit.
Small School (Classes C-D)
DUNCAN MARKIE
Markie, a senior running back for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, rushed for 235 yards on 18 carries as the Lynx opened their 2005 LTC football season with a 48-19 victory over Orono. Markie’s performance was highlighted by a 44-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
NORI FRANCIS-MEZGER
Hampden Academy senior Francis-Mezger scored five goals in a 6-4 season-opening girls soccer win over Skowhegan, which was also her debut in Eastern Maine Class A. Francis-Mezger transferred from Class C Searsport this year.
Small School (Classes C-D)
HANNAH BRETON
Breton, a junior on the Greenville girls soccer team, has racked up six goals and two assists in two games for the Lakers. She had three goals in a 5-0 win over Shead and three goals and two assists in an 8-1 win over Valley. Greenville was the Eastern Maine Class D runner-up last season.
