A resident of a Husson Avenue apartment awoke early Friday morning to find a man in his basement with the resident’s television in hand.

The resident convinced the intruder to go upstairs with him and sit on his couch while he called the police. It was shortly before 4 a.m. when the 52-year-old resident made the call to police. The intruder fled after a few minutes, Bangor police Officer Al Woolley was told.

James Friend, 20, of Bangor was apprehended by police Officer Steve Pelletier a short time later. Friend told police that he thought he was at the home of a friend who had offered to lend him a television and DVD player.

Woolley reported that Friend was intoxicated and couldn’t lead him to his friend’s house. Friend was charged with burglary.

A truck parked on the side of Odlin Road in Bangor on Thursday night caught the attention of a Bangor police officer who thought it might be a disabled vehicle but found an intoxicated driver instead.

The truck wasn’t completely in the breakdown lane and other motorists had to veer away from the truck to avoid hitting it, Officer Wade Betters reported.

The driver, Travis Smith, 38, of Hermon, told Betters that he had had a couple of beers but had stopped before the drinking got heavy. He said that drinking gets him in trouble.

After field sobriety tests, Betters determined that Smith was clearly intoxicated and arrested him on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants. Smith also was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license.
