HERMON – Scott Modery took home the checkered flag in the Limited Sportsman race at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

Modery outraced runner-up and fellow Hermon resident Bernier Thayer, who was making his track debut this season. After a caution left him on the outside, Modery elected to go inside when the caution flag flew again and made it by Thayer for the victory.

Series points leader Brenton Parritt of Steuben was third. Jason Witts of Bangor and Greg Morse of St. Albans were fourth and fifth, respectively.

In Saturday’s and Sunday’s PASS Modified series races, Chad Dow of Fairfield and Chris Staples of Brunswick captured the weekend’s PASS modified races at Hermon’s Speedway 95.

Dow, whose third-place finish in Saturday’s race was erased when his car failed to pass the postrace inspection, cruised to an easy win on Sunday. He was followed across the finish by Searsmont’s Jason Taylor and Staples. Rounding out the top five were Mark Lucas of Harpswell and Wayne Allard of Stetson.

On Saturday, Staples took the checkered flag with Lucas, Allard, Bridgton’s Troy Morse and Taylor finishing out the top five.
