BANGOR – Michelle Barden celebrated her birthday with two goals, including the winner with 15 minutes left in the first half as the Husson College Eagles beat the Saint Joseph College Monks 3-1 in field hockey action Tuesday.
Shawna Bell scored first for 1-1 Husson off an assist from Sara McIntire. The Monks tied it when Amanda MacPheters converted a Stacy Andrus pass.
Barden then responded with an unassisted goal and added a second-half goal off another McIntire assist.
Kelly Bocchino made five saves on six shots for Husson and Mandy Gosslin made six saves on 13 shots for Saint Joseph’s.
N.E. College 6, USM 0
At Henniker, N.H., Amanda Lester had three goals and one assist as the Pilgrims rolled.
Jessica Hanson added two goals and Kayla Goodhue another for New England College, now 2-3. Natalie Nimon stopped six shots.
Sadie Garnache-Poirier stopped five out of 26 shots for the 1-3 Huskies.
Women’s soccer
Maine 4, Holy Cross 1
At Falmouth, Erin Corey scored two goals to lead the Black Bears past the Crusaders of Worcester, Mass.
Maine jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and matched the Crusaders’ scoring in the second half.
Heather Hathorn and Laura Harper also tallied for the 4-3 Bears, while Tanya Adorno made four saves.
Alison Peters scored for Holy Cross. Cashel Scanlon made two saves and Jessica Pietrowicz six for the 2-4 Crusaders.
Bates 5, Saint Joseph’s 1
At Lewiston, Kim Alexander and Jessie Garguilo each tallied a goal plus an assist as the Bobcats rolled in their season opener.
Allison Emery and Jen Marino added a goal apiece for 1-0 Bates. Mia Lidofsky made nine saves.
Katie Jordan scored the lone goal for the 1-2 Monks of Standish. Morgan Meserve recorded 10 saves.
