THOMASTON – Georges Valley High School’s assistant principal has been charged with a felony for allegedly threatening his estranged wife with a gun.

Edward Hastings, 50, of Thomaston was arrested Friday after a domestic incident involving his wife, Trina Hastings, 37, at his Thatcher Street home. Edward Hastings is assistant principal and athletic director at the school.

Police Chief Kevin Haj said Tuesday that the felony charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon against Hastings stems from a domestic incident.

SAD 50 Superintendent Judith Harvey had no comment on the matter Tuesday except to confirm the allegation has had no affect on Hastings’ employment.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Trina Hastings reported to police that she had gone to her husband’s house and they wound up in an argument. Haj said the couple is “apparently separated.”

“She alleges he brandished a firearm” during the dispute, Haj said, identifying the weapon as a handgun.

Trina Hastings immediately left the home and reported the incident to police, who contacted her husband. He came to the police station and was arrested on a charge of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, Haj said.

According to jail records, Hastings was released on $10,000 surety bail and is scheduled for an initial appearance in 6th District Court on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Conditions of bail include no contact with the victim, no possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs, no possession of weapons, including firearms, and random search and testing for substances and random search for weapons.

Also Friday, Trina Hastings filed a protection from abuse order against her husband, which is scheduled for a hearing Friday, Sept. 23.
