Interpreting agency

The Bangor Interpreting Agency, 12 Acme Road, Brewer, held an open house last Saturday. Food and refreshments were served. Activities included a bounce house, clowns, dunking cage, games, raffles and music.

Company president and chief executive officer Nancy Ordway said the agency was holding the open house to introduce the public to the company’s sign and foreign language interpreters.

Business basics course

Four Directions Development Corp. and Penquis Community Action Program began a free Incubator Without Walls small business course on Sept. 12. The course will continue 6-9 p.m. Mondays through Nov. 21 at the Nick Sapiel Building, Indian Island. No class will be held Monday, Oct. 31.

The Incubator Without Walls course is designed to help individuals start and expand businesses with five or fewer employees. Classes are frequently augmented with guest speakers from the local business community.

The course and the Business Training Manual are free and open to tribal members and Maine Basket Maker Alliance members.

New employee

Deb White has joined the University Credit Union as director of human resources and training, a newly created position. She will be responsible for personnel policies, including recruiting, hiring, employee relations, and compensation and benefit administration. She also will coordinate training within the various departments and branches of University Credit Union. A former MBNA senior personal banking officer, White also brings to the job management experience in sales and human resources.
