Blood donor program

BANGOR – The availability of blood products is a concern in a disaster like Katrina. Even though the Eastern Maine Medical Center Blood Donor Program will not be sending its products to the Gulf Coast, it will step up its effort to increase the general blood supply in the this region. This will allow other blood suppliers to ship blood to the Gulf region.

Donors may opt to donate $2 per unit of blood to Operation USA, which is aiding disaster victims. Blood drive schedule is:

. Bangor Wal-Mart, 1-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

. Orono Fire Department, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.
