Air Force Reserve 1st Lt. Richard D. Burgess has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal. The medal is awarded to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of their duties on behalf of the Air Force.

Burgess, an operations officer with 18 years of military service, is assigned to the 452nd Security Forces Squadron at March Air Reserve Base, Moreno Valley, Calif.

He is the son of Gloria Burgess of Milford and a 1984 graduate of Old Town High School.

U.S. Army, Retired

Master Sgt. Daniel P. Stewart retired July 31 from the U.S. Army. Stewart began his military career in 1984 after graduating from Brewer High School in 1983. As a radio teletype operator, he was assigned to Fort Polk, La.; Fort Ord, Calif.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; San Antonio, Texas; Camp Coiner, Korea; and other locations.

He served as radio teletype team chief, tactical satellite section chief, operations NCO, and other positions. His combat tours of duty included Panama in 1989 and Afghanistan in 2002.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational education from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree in history from California State University.

His awards and decorations include two Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, five Army Commendation Medals. two Army Achievement Medals, six Good Conduct Medals and many others.

Stewart has accepted a post teaching at Fayetteville Technical College in North Carolina.

He is the son of the late Frederick A. Stewart and Joyce Stewart of Otis and St. Petersburg, Fla.

Basic training

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Army National Guard Pvt. Chad Perreault has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of France Leclerc of Fort Kent and Todd Perreault of Bangor.

Stateside

WATERTOWN, N.Y. – Army Sgt. Soo Myung Kim has returned to Fort Drum, Watertown, N.Y., after being deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division. By the end of their deployment, soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division were responsible for military operations for almost half of Baghdad.

Kim, a team leader, has served in the military for six years. He is the son of Stan Moses of Bucksport and Roxy Moses of Dallas, Pa., and a 1998 graduate of Bangor High School.
