Officer from DAR to speak

BANGOR – Linda Calvin, recording secretary general of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, will be the guest of honor during the 117th annual fall meeting of the Maine State Organization DAR to be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23-24, at the Holiday Inn, Waterville.

Mrs. Calvin, of Visalia, Calif., will present a message on the work of the National Society.

Presiding over the two-day meeting will be the Maine State DAR regent, Donna Hoffmann of Bucksport. Serving as hostess chapters will be the Frances Dighton Williams Chapter of Bangor, the Kathadin Valley-Lydia Putnum Chapter of Lincoln, and the Majabigwaduce Chapter of Brooksville. Meeting coordinator is the Maine DAR vice regent, Vrege Murray of Portland.

The schedule of events for the meeting includes: Seminar on Women’s Issues led by Barbara Joyce of Milo, 1-2 p.m. Friday, and Seminar on Protocol led by Ann Thomas of Augusta, 2-3:30 p.m.

Registration will take place 2:30-4:30 p.m. and a banquet at 6 p.m. will be followed by the board of management meeting.

The Cameo Club will hold its annual breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by registration from 8 to 9 a.m. The meeting will be called to order at 9 a.m. and will continue throughout the day, with state officers and chairwomen giving suggestions for projects for the coming year.

The speaker after the noon luncheon will be the Rev. Ron Hutchins, who will speak on “How We Influence Others.” A special guest will be the first place winner in the annual Flag Essay contest.
