The University of Maine-Presque Isle is set to induct three new members into the UMPI Athletic Hall of Fame as part of Homecoming festivities on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Sue Lougee, Brian Cronin and Darren Clukey will be recognized for their athletic accomplishments both at UMPI and after graduation. They will be honored during an evening banquet at the Campus Center.
Lougee, a Portland native from the Class of 1972, is being honored for her postgraduate efforts . Lougee, who has lived in Presque Isle for 32 years, has taught physical education at Skyway Middle School.
She has been a longtime trainer for SAD 1 and also has coached varsity cross country and track and middle school soccer and basketball.
Cronin, Class of 1981, played soccer and baseball at UMPI from 1977-1982. The Whitman, Mass., native was named the UMPI Male Athlete of the Year in 1982. He was a soccer captain in 1981.
Cronin has taught phys ed in SAD 1 for the last 17 years ans also has taught in Pelham, N.H., and East Holden. He is an assistant baseball coach at Presque Isle High School and did a two-year stint as UMPI’s baseball coach.
Clukey (Class of 1996) was among the Owls’ top soccer players. He scored 47 goals and added 19 assists, twice earning All-Maine Athletic Conference and All-NAIA Northeast honors.
Clukey has worked in social service agencies and is a partner in a rehabilitation company based in Danvers, Mass., where he is the director of marketing and public relations.
The Yarmouth resident remains active in men’s league soccer, playing on the Mexicali Blues team that has won the state championship four of the last five years.

MMA HofF to induct 4 members
Maine Maritime Academy in Castine is scheduled Saturday to induct four people into the Bill Mottola Athletics Hall of Fame as part of its Homecoming festivities.
The Mariner hall of fame, which was created a year ago, will welcome G. David Fenderson, Robert Giamotti, Albert Lay and Boima C. “B.C.” Voyou.
The inductees will be recognized during a 10 a.m. induction ceremony at the Margaret Chase Smith Gym, then will be introduced prior to MMA’s 1 p.m. football game against Curry at Ritchie Field.
Fenderson, a member of the Class of 1956, is a former football player who has supported MMA athletics. Giamotti has served as an MMA administrator, sports information director and volunteer.
Lay, Class of 1975, was a standout in football and wrestling while Voyou (Class of 1996) was a soccer star for the Mariners.
UNE HofF inductions set Oct. 1
The University of New England in Biddeford has scheduled its first Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Saturday, Oct. 1.
Jim Beaudry and the St. Francis College hockey teams of 1976-77, 1977-78 and 1978-79 are the inaugural inductees.
The ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. in the upper cafeteria of Decary Hall.
Beaudry, a resident of Biddeford Pool, was the athletic director at St. Francis College for 21 years and coached baseball, men’s basketball, men’s soccer, cross country and golf at St. Francis before it became UNE.
The St. Francis hockey teams won three straight NAIA District 5 championships, each time advancing to the national tournament.

Hunt named UNE lacrosse coach
Jon Hunt has been hired as the men’s lacrosse coach at the University of New England, athletic director Karol L’Hereux announced recently.
Hunt replaces Bob Watson, who served as the Nor’easters’ interim coach the last two seasons.
Hunt arrives at UNE from Colby College in Waterville, where he was an assistant coach for two seasons. The Guilford, Conn., native is a 2000 graduate of Plymouth State University, where he was a four-year player before graduating with a degree in business management.
