But you still need to activate your account.
A Bangor woman alerted police Saturday after suspecting that she may have been involved in an online “phishing” scam when she tried recently to log in to her bank account.
The woman told a Bangor police officer that when she tried to access her Bank of America account online, she was denied. She then received an e-mail stating that her account has been blocked due to excessive login attempts.
The e-mail had a link to access the Web site, but when the woman clicked on it, it took her to a page that asked her to fill out updated banking information, including account numbers and passwords.
The woman filled out the online form but called Bank of America because she suspected something might not be right, according to a police report. A phone representative for the bank told the woman that the e-mail did not come from Bank of America.
She did not lose any money from her account, but Bangor police warned Bank of America customers to be wary of suspicious e-mails that ask for personal information.
A Hermon man tried to run from Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Adams Sunday afternoon, but wasn’t successful and ended up at Penobscot County Jail.
Adams went to the home of Jarod Brown, 22, of Hermon, around 3 p.m. Sunday looking for the man who had three warrants for his arrest out of Bangor District Court.
The warrants stemmed from an incident two weeks ago and were for violating condition of release, failure to stop for an officer, and operating after suspension.
“I had a pretty good idea he was there,” Adams said, noting that he was familiar with the suspect. When the deputy arrived at 2227 Park Drive, he knocked on the door but no one answered.
“But I could hear someone inside the trailer,” Adams said. “[Brown] has a habit of going out the rear door of the trailer when we make contact with him.”
Adams went around back and saw Brown trying to flee, but the man ran back inside when he saw the deputy. After successfully making it out the front door, Brown tried to outrun the deputy, but Adams caught up with him at the rear of the trailer park.
Brown was taken to the county jail where he was to be held until his arraignment at 1 p.m. Monday at 3rd District Court in Bangor.
