PLEASANT POINT – Oklahoma-based Quoddy Bay LLC said Tuesday it has applied to the state for a submerged-lands lease in connection with its plans for a liquefied natural gas import facility at Split Rock.

Earlier this year, the company signed a land lease agreement with the Passamaquoddy Tribe.

They hope to build a terminal at Split Rock off Route 190. The company also has proposed building an 8-mile underwater pipeline that would connect with storage tanks in Robbinston.

The submerged-lands permit is needed before the company can build a half-mile pier off Split Rock.

The application was submitted to the state Bureau of Parks and Lands and is the first of several applications the company will have to submit and have approved before a facility can be constructed.
