2 Normand penalty kicks carry Red Riots

BLUE HILL – Jeff Normand scored two goals on penalty kicks with 32:39 and 9:59 left in the second half to lift the Orono Red Riots to a 2-1 victory over the George Stevens Academy Eagles in a high school boys soccer game Thursday.

Mat Lint made 10 saves on 17 shots for 5-0-1 Orono.

Damien Smith scored on a Danny Moran assist with 6:03 left in regulation for 3-2-1 George Stevens Academy. Collin Henry stopped 10 of 21 shots.

JV: 2-2

East Grand 5, Highview Christian 3

At Danforth, Adam Beaudoin scored two goals to lead host East Grand to the win.

Cody Sproul scored a goal and assisted two others for 1-4 East Grand. Isaiah Gillis and Tyler Langill each had a goal and Nick Malone had an assist. Ricky Parks made 11 saves on 14 shots.

Stephen Rowe scored two goals for 0-4 Highview Christian of Charleston and Josh Mountain had a goal. Andrew Richard stopped nine of 18 shots.

Ellsworth 1, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Demetrios Katsiaficas scored the winning goal with 9:38 left in regulation off a Chris Baez assist to lead Ellsworth past John Bapst.

Cory Smith stopped all 14 shots for 2-3 Ellsworth.

Chris Smith made three saves on four shots for 4-2 John Bapst.

JV: Ellsworth 2-0

MDI 6, Foxcroft 0

At Mount Desert Island, Ben Young scored three goals to push Mount Desert Island to the win.

Naniel Hilliard scored a goal and assisted two others for 2-4-1 MDI. Skyler Lewis and Jordan Merchant both had a goal. Max Blandford stopped four of six shots.

Chris Heretakis made seven saves on 18 shots for 0-4 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: MDI 4-1

Hermon 2, Bucksport 1

At Hermon, Brady Hurd and Joey Carmichael netted unassisted goals in the first half to lift the Hawks to the win.

Josh Blaine made three saves on five shots for 5-2 Hermon.

Teddy Cooke converted a penalty kick for the 0-6 Golden Bucks. Miles Bisher blocked 11 of 24 shots.

JV: Hermon 3-2

Girls soccer

Penobscot Valley 3, Schenck 1

At Howland, the Howlers raced out to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to the win.

Morgan Cyr knocked in two goals and Molly Thompson one for 4-2-1 Penobscot Valley. Jenn Plourde made five saves on eight shots.

Gabrielle Rioux scored in the second half for the 2-3 Wolverines of East Millinocket. Robin Larlee stopped 11 of 24 shots.

Bangor Christian 7, Sumner 1

At Bangor, Amber Leathers and Christin Pelletier each scored three goals and had three assists to lead Bangor Christian to the win.

Morgan Chasse added a goal for 4-1 Bangor Christian and Britney Palmer made 11 saves on 12 shots.

Kylie Bragdon scored an unassisted goal for 2-3-1 Sumner of East Sullivan and Whitney Page stopped 18 of 25 shots.

Lee 7, Penquis 0

At Lee, Kimmy Thurlow scored three goals to help Lee Academy to the win.

Aarika Ritchie had a goal and an assist for 5-0 Lee as Lacy McLaughlin and Brooke Harris both added a goal. Amanda Gifford had an assist. Liz Read and Kerri Harris combined to stop all three shots.

Johannah Kutz made 15 saves on 30 shots for 0-6 Penquis of Milo.

Foxcroft 1, Hermon 1 (2OT)

At Dover-Foxcroft, the Ponies and Hawks each scored a first-half goal but that was the end of the scoring as the teams played to a stalemate.

Ashley Andrews gave 0-7-1 Hermon an early lead with a goal. Ashley Kelly stopped 20 out of 26 shots.

Lindsey Chase scored to tie it up for the 3-3-1 Ponies. Brittany Fadley made 14 saves on 15 shots.

Hampden 5, Old Town 1

At Old Town, Nori Francis-Mezger registered two goals to lead Hampden Academy to its fifth win against two losses.

Annaliese Lafayette, Kathleen Macone and Michelle Manning added a goal apiece for the Broncos. Michelle Wells made eight saves on 14 shots.

Allison Gallant scored the lone goal for 0-6 Old Town. Nicole Guay stopped 11 of 21 shots.

JV: Hampden 6-1

Orono 2, George Stevens 1

At Orono, first-half goals by Lauren Wheeler and Kate Kirby lifted the undefeated Red Riots past George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Lauren Young and Lindsey Colbath earned assists on the goals.

Heather Woodbrey earned the shutout in goal, making seven saves on 12 shots for 6-0-1 Orono. Kayla Eaton and Lexi Wessel combined to make nine saves on 16 shots for 2-2-2 GSA.

JV: GSA 2-1

Field hockey

John Bapst 4, Foxcroft 0

At Bangor, Christina Andrle scored two goals and assisted two others to help lead John Bapst to victory.

Ali Dunn and Allison Krause both scored a goal for 6-1 John Bapst. Caroline Openshaw and Meagan Tilton each had an assist. Hillary Laferriere stopped the only shot that she faced.

Morgan Rice made 20 saves on 24 shots for 5-2 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: 0-0

Dexter 3, Brewer 1

At Brewer, Vanessa Hartford scored two goals to push Dexter to victory.

Jana Kenney scored on a Nicci Burton assist for 6-1 Dexter. Katie Poirier made two saves on five shots.

Emily Fraser scored a first-half goal for 0-6 Brewer. Zora Merrill stopped five of nine shots.

JV: Dexter 6-0
