Rushforth PK lifts Raiders to victory

EAST MACHIAS – Sara Rushforth converted a penalty kick 50 seconds into the extra session to lift the Washington Academy Raiders to a 2-1 schoolgirl soccer win over the Calais Blue Devils on Thursday.

Rushforth also scored the Raiders’ first goal five minutes into the second half. Meagan Look stopped four of six shots.

Steph Seeley scored 15 minutes into the second half to tie the game for Calais. Stephanie Perry made 10 saves on 12 shots.

Bangor Chr. 7, Sumner 1

At Bangor, Amber Leathers and Christin Pelletier each scored three goals and had three assists to lead Bangor Christian to the win.

Morgan Chasse added a goal for 4-1 Bangor Christian and Britney Palmer made 11 saves on 12 shots.

Kylie Bragdon scored an unassisted goal for 2-3-1 Sumner of East Sullivan and Whitney Page stopped 18 of 25 shots.

Searsport 3, DI-Stonington 0

At Deer Isle, Tianna Faunce scored two goals to lead the Vikings to the win.

Annette Anderson added a goal for 3-3 Searsport. Abel Pickering had one save on three shots.

Anika Powers had 18 saves on 28 shots for the 0-5-1 Mariners.

Orono 2, George Stevens 1

At Orono, first-half goals by Lauren Wheeler and Kate Kirby lifted the undefeated Red Riots past George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Lauren Young and Lindsey Colbath earned assists on the goals.

Heather Woodbrey earned the shutout in goal, making seven saves on 12 shots for 6-0-1 Orono. Kayla Eaton and Lexi Wessel combined to make nine saves on 16 shots for 2-2-2 GSA.

JV: GSA 2-1

Boys soccer

East Grand 5, Highview Chr. 3

At Danforth, Adam Beaudoin scored two goals to lead host East Grand to the win.

Cody Sproul scored a goal and assisted two others for 1-4 East Grand. Isaiah Gillis and Tyler Langill each had a goal and Nick Malone had an assist. Ricky Parks made 11 saves on 14 shots.

Stephen Rowe scored two goals for 0-4 Highview Christian of Charleston and Josh Mountain had a goal. Andrew Richard stopped nine of 18 shots.

Ellsworth 1, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Demetrios Katsiaficas scored the winning goal with 9:38 left in regulation off a Chris Baez assist to lead Ellsworth past John Bapst.

Cory Smith stopped all 14 shots for 2-3 Ellsworth.

Chris Smith made three saves on four shots for 4-2 John Bapst.

JV: Ellsworth 2-0

Orono 2, George Stevens 1

At Blue Hill, Jeff Normand scored two goals on penalty kicks with 32:39 and 9:59 left in the second half to push Orono to the win.

Mat Lint made 10 saves on 17 shots for 5-0-1 Orono.

Damien Smith scored on a Danny Moran assist with 6:03 left in regulation for 3-2-1 George Stevens Academy. Collin Henry stopped 10 of 21 shots.

JV: 2-2

MDI 6, Foxcroft 0

At Mount Desert Island, Ben Young scored three goals to push Mount Desert Island to the win.

Naniel Hilliard scored a goal and assisted two others for 2-4-1 MDI. Skyler Lewis and Jordan Merchant both had a goal. Max Blandford stopped four of six shots.

Chris Heretakis made seven saves on 18 shots for 0-4 Foxcroft Academy.

JV: MDI 4-1

Hermon 2, Bucksport 1

At Hermon, Brady Hurd and Joey Carmichael netted unassisted goals in the first half to lift the Hawks to the win.

Josh Blaine made three saves on five shots for 5-2 Hermon.

Teddy Cooke converted a penalty kick for the 0-6 Golden Bucks. Miles Bisher blocked 11 of 24 shots.

JV: Hermon 3-2

Field Hockey

Belfast 3, Camden Hills 0

At Camden, Kallie Aldus tallied one goal and one assist to lead Belfast to the win.

Skye Ellis and Jillian Ross added a goal apiece and Kelsey Jackson two assists for the 8-0 Lions. Liz Anderson stopped the only shot she faced.

Dale Winsper had seven saves on 10 shots for 3-4 Camden Hills.

JV: Belfast 3-0
