Ten-year-old Allen is a smart, generous, sweet and thoughtful little boy who is in the fourth grade. He is very curious about everything around him and likes to learn new things.
Allen is creative and enjoys building things and playing with Legos. Allen is good at solving problems, and when he faces disagreeable situations, he is able to generate feasible alternative plans. Allen takes pride in his ability to be resourceful. His building creativity is evidenced by a little chair in his room that he created out of “stuff.”
Allen has a guitar and a cowboy hat, and he enjoys taking impromptu lessons. He would like to take “real” guitar lessons in the future. He is active and quick. He is very skilled at doing headstands. He enjoys outdoor activities and sports, including basketball.
Since in the care of the Maine Department of Health & Human Services, Allen has been doing a good job of working on relating positively to peers and caregivers and to trust adults and accept their decisions for him.
Allen has participated in therapy in the past, and it is imperative that he continues this work with his selected adoptive family.
Allen awaits anxiously his own “growing up family.” The ideal family for Allen would be a two-parent family that has some experience parenting a child with special needs. Allen’s household either should be without other children or without children younger than him. He thrives on structure and one-on-one time. An adoption subsidy is available for the most appropriate family.
Allen is one of 187 children in Maine Department of Health & Human Service’s care who is seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
