Six Maine women to get Morton award

PORTLAND – The University of New England’s Westbrook campus will honor six prominent Maine women with the 2005 Deborah Morton Award at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, at Ludcke Auditorium, 716 Stevens Ave.

The recipients will be:

. U.S. Sen. Susan M Collins of Maine.

. Sister Mary Norberta, president and chief executive officer of St. Joseph Hospital and St. Joseph Healthcare Foundation in Bangor.

. Louise Parker James, former instructor and dean of students at Westbrook Junior College.

. Eleanor Parker Merrill, poet, volunteer, and former Westbrook College faculty member.

. Kay Rand, principal of BSSN Resources, a consulting subsidiary of Bernstein, Shur, Sawyer and Nelson.

. Paula D Silsby, U.S. attorney, District of Maine.

All will speak at the awards convocation ceremony. The public is welcome, but seating is on a first-come first-served basis. For more information, call 221-4375.
