Mailroom staff at the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building in Bangor reported finding a suspicious manila envelope Friday morning. The initial investigation by Bangor Police Department has been turned over to federal authorities.
The envelope was determined to be suspicious based on some writing on it, according to the police report. Bangor police Officer Steve Jordan was called to the federal building about 11:15 a.m. Friday.
Firefighters from the Bangor Fire Department were brought in and the envelope was sealed and prepared to be taken to the state laboratory for testing. The U.S. Marshal’s Office is now in charge of the investigation, according to the report.

A search of the vehicle, however, uncovered a marijuana pipe Morse said was his and a narcotic pill he claimed belonged to someone else, in addition to the small bag of marijuana he said the police would find.
Morse was summoned on charges of possession of a Schedule W drug, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a warning for having studded snow tires on his vehicle out of season.

Not convinced, the employee said he was going to call the girl’s mother to verify the permission, only to be told that the mother was in Florida, according to the police report.
The employee cancelled the transaction and called the credit card company. The company called the mother, who was not in Florida. The mother met with her daughter and Bangor police Officer Douglas Moore, who summoned the daughter.
