Community Radio WERU-FM 89.9 of Blue Hill and 102.9 of Bangor needs your help.
WERU-FM Development Director Denis Howard reports the radio station is planning a pledge drive to raise funds for the Maine Plan for Displaced Americans which, he wrote, “will help three, displaced, low-income families” who were victims of Hurricane Katrina find a home in Maine.
The drive will be held 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, and WERU needs at least 12 people “to answer pledge phones for a few hours” during this broadcast benefit.
Based in Portland, Howard explained, “the Maine Plan for Displaced Americans is organized by activists from the Homeless Marathon Radio Broadcast and the National Coalition to End Homelessness, working with government agencies like the Maine Subsidized Housing Authority.”
If you can help by answering phones for WERU in this Hurricane Katrina relief effort, call 469-6600 during weekday business hours or e-mail info@weru.org to volunteer.
